Eminem documentary ‘STANS’ to premiere on Paramount+

Eminem in Concert at The Michigan Central Station. Detroit^ Michigan June 6 2024

After its limited release in theaters, the Eminem-produced documentary Stans will be available to stream on Paramount+ beginning August 26th.

STANS debuted in theaters across the U.S. on Aug. 7, and was released internationally on the same date by Trafalgar Releasing.  The film will also arrive on the streaming service Aug. 27 in Britain, Australia, Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland and Austria, and Oct. 3 in Japan, after making its premiere at SXSW London.

Stans – a nod to Eminem’s 2000 song “Stan” – describes “an obsessive, unstable fan,” with the term becoming so popular it was added to the Oxford English Dictionary some 17 years later.  The documentary STANS explores the Eminem’s life through the perspective of his superfans.

The official documentary synopsis reads: “Moving, funny, and revealing, the film offers a raw and riveting exploration of Eminem’s legendary career through the eyes of his most devoted fans. Released in 2000, Eminem’s song “Stan” — about an obsessive, unstable fan — remains iconic. So iconic that the term stan was officially added to the Oxford English Dictionary in 2017. More than just an exploration of fandom, the film examines the complicated relationship between one of the world’s most private artists and his massive public persona. Through stylized recreations, rare archival footage, and intimate original interviews, it offers a raw, loud and revealing journey across Eminem’s career — and the passionate audience that has grown with him,” the description states.”

Director Steven Leckart said in a statement: “‘Stan’ is one of the most unconventional songs ever written, where the story is mostly told from a fan’s perspective, so this film was an incredible opportunity to find a unique approach. We kept coming back to one lyric from the song: ‘I’m just like you’. Fans who echo that sentiment carry much of the film. But like the song, Marshall’s perspective was also essential to the movie. I’m grateful for just how candid, sincere and frequently hilarious he was.”

Brown spoke earlier this year about wanting to start a family with her husband, sharing during an appearance on the “SmartLess” podcast in March: “Jake knows how important it is to me. Of course, I want to focus on really establishing myself as an actor and as a producer, but I also find it’s so important to start a family for me, personally. It’s a huge thing. Jake was like, ‘We cannot do that until we get married,’ so that was his thing, and my thing was, I really want a family. I really want a big family. I’m one of four. He’s one of four. So it is definitely in our future. But, for me, I don’t see having your own child, you know, as really any different as in adopting.”

Brown added that her parents had their first child when they were 21 and 19, respectively, and she’s always wanted to follow suit: “It’s been my thing since before I met Jake. Since I was a baby, I told my mom, like, baby dolls. I wanted to be a mom just like the way my mom was to me.”

We all want someone or something to comfort us no matter how we are right now or who we become in the future. But it’s f*cking scary.”
