Noah Kahan drops ‘The Great Divide’ extended version ‘The Last of the Bugs’

Concert of Noah Kahan 25 February 2024. TivoliVredenburg Utrecht^ The Netherlands.

Just a day after unveiling his fourth studio album The Great Divide, Noah Kahan added even more to the project with an unexpected extended release.

The Great Divide: The Last of the Bugs expands the album to 21 tracks, introducing four additional songs woven into the existing lineup rather than grouped at the end. “Lighthouse” appears early in the sequence, followed by “Staying Still” placed shortly after “Paid Time Off.” The remaining additions, “A Few of Our Own” and “Orbiter,” arrive near the album’s close.

The new album from Kahan follows his breakout success with Stick Season, which propelled the Vermont-born artist from smaller venues to headlining major stages. He first revealed The Great Divide in January and debuted its lead single during a commercial break at the Grammy Awards. Reflecting on the process, Kahan shared, “It is hard to even begin to describe what these last few years making this album has felt like,” describing a mix of uncertainty and gratitude that shaped the project. He added, “I was never really alone,” crediting his team, family, and fans for helping guide him through the experience.

Earlier in the month, Kahan also released Noah Kahan: Out of Body, a 90-minute film directed by Nick Sweeney that captures the making of the album and his efforts to navigate the pressure following a major breakthrough.

CNN founder and cable television pioneer Ted Turner dies at age 87

Ted Turner at the 2019 TCM Classic Film Festival Gala - "When Harry Met Sally" at the TCL Chinese Theater IMAX on April 11^ 2019 in Los Angeles^ CA

Ted Turner, the bold entrepreneur who reshaped television with the launch of the first 24-hour news network and built a far-reaching media empire, has died at 87.

His passing was confirmed by his company, which said he died peacefully surrounded by family. Turner Enterprises shared in a statement: “On behalf of the Turner family, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of philanthropist, environmentalist and cable pioneer Ted Turner who died peacefully today at age 87, surrounded by his family … He is survived by his five children – Laura Turner Seydel (Rutherford), Robert E. (Teddy) Turner IV (Blair), Rhett Turner, Beau Turner (Georgia), Jennie Turner Garlington (Peek), fourteen
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The family has requested privacy during this time as they grieve the death of their beloved patriarch. A private family service is planned, and a public memorial will be held at a later date, with details to follow.”
Turner revealed in 2018 that he had been living with Lewy body dementia, a progressive brain disorder that affected his memory in later years.

President Trump reacted to Turner’s death with a post on Truth Social, writing: “Ted Turner, one of the Greats of All Time, just died … one of the Greats of Broadcast History, and a friend of mine. Whenever I needed him, he was there, always willing to fight for a good cause!”

Born Robert Edward Turner III in Cincinnati and raised in Savannah, Georgia, he briefly attended Brown University before joining the Coast Guard Reserve. After his father’s death, he took over the family advertising business and transformed it into a global operation, laying the foundation for his future in media. In the 1970s, Turner made a pivotal move by acquiring a struggling Atlanta television station and turning it into a nationwide “superstation” via satellite—a breakthrough that helped redefine cable broadcasting. He followed that innovation with the launch of CNN in 1980, driven by a simple idea: continuous news coverage.

CNN quickly proved its value by delivering live coverage of major global events, changing how audiences consumed news. Turner expanded aggressively, creating additional networks including CNN International, TNT, Cartoon Network, and Turner Classic Movies, while also acquiring film libraries that became key programming assets.

In a statement, CNN chief Mark Thompson said, “Ted was an intensely involved and committed leader, intrepid, fearless and always willing to back a hunch and trust his own judgement,” adding that Turner’s influence remains central to the network’s identity.

Beyond television, Turner ventured into sports, purchasing the Atlanta Braves and Atlanta Hawks. Under his ownership, the Braves captured the 1995 World Series. He also entered professional wrestling with World Championship Wrestling, which later became a major rival in the industry. In 1996, Turner Broadcasting merged with Time Warner in a landmark deal, followed by the high-profile AOL-Time Warner merger in 2001.

His interests extended far beyond media. An accomplished sailor, he won the America’s Cup in 1977. He also became one of the largest private landowners in the U.S., dedicating vast acreage to conservation and building the country’s largest private herd of bison. In 2002, he launched a restaurant chain centered on sustainable bison cuisine.

Turner’s philanthropic impact was equally significant. He established the Turner Foundation to support environmental causes and pledged $1 billion to the United Nations, leading to the creation of the United Nations Foundation. He also co-founded the Nuclear Threat Initiative to reduce global security risks. Over his lifetime, Turner received numerous honors, including Time magazine’s “Man of the Year” and a lifetime achievement award for his contributions to broadcasting.

Turner was married three times, including a high-profile relationship with actress Jane Fonda, whom he later described as a lasting love: “When you love somebody, and you really love ’em, you never stop loving ’em.” He is survived by five children, 14 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. A private service is planned, with a public memorial to follow.

Dwayne Johnson transforms into Maui in the trailer for the live-action ‘Moana’ film

Dwayne Johnson attends the "Moana 2" UK Premiere at Cineworld Leicester Square in London^ England. London^ United Kingdom - November 24^ 2024

Disney has released the trailer for its live-action reimagining of Moana, offering a glimpse at the studio’s new take on the hit animated story. The film stars newcomer Catherine Laga’aia as Moana, with Dwayne Johnson reprising his role as the larger-than-life demigod Maui.

The preview opens on Motunui, where Moana feels a pull toward the ocean and a destiny beyond her island. Her grandmother, Gramma Tala (Rena Owen), sets the journey in motion, telling her, “The story has just begun,” and warning of a growing darkness beyond the reef. She urges Moana to find Maui and restore the heart of Te Fiti to save her people.

Maui soon makes his entrance, greeting Moana with his signature flair — including an enthusiastic “chee-hoo” — before showing off his shape-shifting abilities. Together, the pair set off across the ocean, facing challenges as they pursue their mission. The trailer closes with Moana asserting her identity, saying, “I’m not a princess. I’m the daughter of the chief, leader of my people.” When Maui asks, “Are you ready to be the hero?” she responds, “Let’s go save the world.”

Directed by Thomas Kail and written by Jared Bush and Dana Ledoux Miller, the film blends new elements with the spirit of the original. The creative team also includes choreographer Tiana Nonosina Liufau and costume designer Liz McGregor. Music features contributions from Lin-Manuel Miranda, Mark Mancina and Opetaia Foa’i, with Mancina returning as composer.

Johnson is also among the producers, alongside Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia and Beau Flynn, while Auli’i Cravalho — who voiced Moana in the 2016 film and its sequel — serves as an executive producer. The cast includes John Tui as Chief Tui, Frankie Adams as Sina and Rena Owen as Gramma Tala.

The original Moana was both a box office hit and an awards contender, earning over $643 million worldwide and receiving Oscar nominations, including one for the song “How Far I’ll Go.”

Zayn Malik cancels U.S. leg of ‘Konnakol’ tour after health setback

Zayn Malik at the Los Angeles premiere of 'Straight Outta Compton' held at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles^ USA on August 10^ 2015.

Zayn Malik has officially scrapped all U.S. dates on his upcoming Konnakol Tour following a recent hospitalization for an undisclosed illness, which is prompting a reshuffle of his global touring plans. The tour will support Zayn’s recent album, Konnakol (stream: HERE.).

The U.S. leg—originally set to begin July 19 in Philadelphia and continue through cities including Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, and Miami in November—has been completely removed from the schedule. Reports also noted softer ticket sales for the American dates, though his earlier Las Vegas residency was warmly received.

The former One Direction star, 33, shared the update via Instagram Stories, thanking fans for their support as he recovers and explaining the need to scale back his schedule. His message read: “To my fans: Thank you so much for all the support and love you’ve shown me on the album release and more importantly your love, prayers, and well wishes for my health. I’ve felt it, and it’s meant the world. I’ve been at home recovering and I’m doing well and will be better and stronger than before. I’ve had to take another look at my schedule for the months ahead and have to reduce the number of shows on the KONNAKOL Tour. I want to make sure I still get out and see as many of you as I possibly can. I’m really looking forward to playing these shows for you, and I hope to see the rest of you around the world very soon. Big Love, Z”

He also previously told fans, “Heartbroken that I can’t see you all this week, I wouldn’t be in the place I am today without you guys and am so thankful for your understanding,” after cancelling a planned album listening event and Q&A in Kingston, U.K.

Malik was hospitalized last month, though details of his condition have not been disclosed. Around the same time, he also asked fans to stop sending flowers after a local florist became overwhelmed, encouraging donations instead to the Palestine Project. His cousin later clarified the request was linked to a charity fundraiser and not his hospitalization.

Despite the setbacks, the singer is continuing with select international shows. The tour will now kick off May 23 at London’s O2 Arena, followed by Manchester’s AO Arena. European cancellations include previously planned stops such as Dublin and Birmingham. In June, he’ll head to Mexico with shows in Monterrey (June 14), Guadalajara (June 17), and Mexico City (June 20), before moving on to South America in October, including Santiago, Buenos Aires, São Paulo, and Lima.

The Duffer Brothers new series ‘The Boroughs’ to premiere May 21st on Netflix

Alfred Molina at the "Tiny Beautiful Things" Opening Night at the Pasadena Playhouse on April 14^ 2019 in Pasadena^ CA

Netflix will premiere The Boroughs, a supernatural mystery from the Duffer Brothers (producers of “Stranger Things”) on May 21.

A post on X reads: “Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard, Clarke Peters, Denis O’Hare, Bill Pullman. Welcome to THE BOROUGHS. A new supernatural series from the executive producers of STRANGER THINGS. May 21.”

The eight-episode series takes place in a quiet retirement community where a grieving newcomer, Sam Cooper (Alfred Molina), arrives after losing his wife—only to encounter something far more sinister. As strange events unfold, he joins a group of fellow residents to uncover a dangerous secret hidden within their seemingly idyllic surroundings. The ensemble cast includes Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard, Clarke Peters, Denis O’Hare, and Bill Pullman, along with Jena Malone, Carlos Miranda, Seth Numrich, Alice Kremelberg, and others.

Created by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews, the series blends horror, mystery, and emotional storytelling. The Duffer Brothers executive produce through Upside Down Pictures, with Hilary Leavitt, while Ben Taylor directs multiple episodes.

Addiss and Matthews shares that “from the beginning, we knew we wanted The Boroughs to feel equal parts scary, mysterious, exciting and emotional. The challenge was to create a world that could hold all of these different tones at once. Which is why it was so fun to work with the Duffer Brothers – the masters of balancing heart and horror.”

The Duffers were drawn to the show’s fresh take on older characters in a genre setting:  “For years, we’ve wondered why no one has made a film like Ron Howard’s wonderful ‘Cocoon’ since, well, ‘Cocoon.’ Then, out of nowhere, Jeff and Will emailed us an idea for ‘The Boroughs:’ a story about retirees and monsters. They were adamant that — unlike so many stories about older characters — this wouldn’t treat aging as a punchline. Instead, it would treat its characters as real people facing real challenges… along with a few supernatural ones. It was exactly the show we’d been dreaming of.”
