ABC’s ‘Dancing With the Stars’ reveals cast for Season 33

ABC’s Dancing with the Stars revealed its star-studded cast, including ‘Bachelorette’ Jenn Tran, actress Tori Spelling, and Olympian Ilona Maher.

The Season 33 cast of ‘DWTS’ was announced on Wednesday’s episode of Good Morning America and will also include Phaedra Parks (of The Real Housewives of Atlanta), Chandler Kinney, Eric Roberts, Anna Delvey, Reginald VelJohnson, former ‘Bachelor’ star Joey Graziadei, former New England Patriot Danny Amendola, model Brooks Nader, NBA star Dwight Howard and Olympian Stephen Nedoroscik (who was previously announced in August).

Season 33 of DWTS will premiere on ABC and Disney+ on Sept. 17 at 8 p.m. EDT. Hulu will stream the series on Sept. 18.

Adele to take extended break from music after wrapping Munich, Vegas residencies

Adele announced she is taking a break from creating new music or performing after her Munich and Las Vegas residencies wrap up later this year.  The singer/songwriter told the crowd at her 10th and last show in Germany over the weekend (per CNN): “I just need a rest .. I have spent the last seven years building a new life for myself, and I want to live it now .. I want to live the new life that I have been building.”

Adele’s Las Vegas residency, which began in November 2022, is slated to wrap up this November after more than 100 live stage shows. She wrapped up her residency in Munich, Germany om August 31st, where she delivered the speech to the audience about taking an extended break. In a video from her last Munich show, posted by fans to social media, the 36-year-old said: “I’m not the most comfortable performer, I know that, but I am very f—ing good at it. And I’ve really enjoyed performing for nearly three now, which is the longest I’ve ever done and probably the longest I will ever do .. I still have exactly five weeks of shows, but after that, I will not see you for an incredibly long time. And I will hold you dear in my heart for that whole length of my break. And I will fantasize about these shows and any shows that I’ve done over the last three years.”

Adele has previously said she suffers from sciatica and is uncomfortable performing live for long periods at time.   The Grammy-winning artist has an 11-year-old son named Angelo, and is rumored to be engaged to longtime partner, Rich Paul.

Adele hasn’t released new music since her fourth album “30,” which arrived in November 2021. She told fans on stage earlier this year: “I just don’t think I’m going to write an album for quite some time. But next time I do, I’ll come to wherever it is you live.”

Tim Allen returning to ABC in new series ‘Shifting Gears’ with Kat Dennings

ABC has ordered a new sitcom starring Tim Allen and Kat Dennings. According to multiple reports (including Deadline and Variety) Allen and Dennings will team up in a new comedy titled “Shifting Gears.”

The pilot for Shifting Gears was announced in March, but the show was just officially green-lit. Mike Scully and Julie Thacker Scully — who were originally announced as writers and executive producers on “Shifting Gears” — have since exited the series, but will be credited as executive producers on the pilot episode. The search is now on for a new showrunner.

Shifting Gears is said to revolve around Allen, a widower who runs a classic car workshop, and his estranged daughter, Dennings who shows up with her own teenage children. A network synopsis said the show follows Matt (Allen), “the stubborn, widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop. When Matt’s estranged daughter (Dennings) and her teenage kids move into his house, the real restoration begins.”

Veteran actor Daryl “Chill” Mitchell is also cast on the showas Stitch, with Maxwell Simkins as Carter, and Barrett Margolis as Georgia. Allen serves as an executive producer in the series along with Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Richard Baker, Rick Messina and John Pasquin.

Billy Crystal, Judith Light to star in Apple TV+ psychological thriller ‘Before’

Apple TV+  series is teasing the new show Before, described as a “supernatural mystery series”starring Billy Crystal and Judith Light. A social media post read: “When a troubled young boy suffering from violent fears and frequent nightmares shows up on Eli’s doorstep, he must unravel the unexplained connection between them. The new psychological thriller series #Before premieres October 25 on Apple TV+”

A series synopsis reads: Eli (Crystal), is navigating the loss of wife Lynn (Light), when he meets Noah (Jacobi Jupe), who is suffering with severe anxiety and nightmares. The child “seems to have a haunting connection to Eli’s past … as Eli attempts to help Noah, their mysterious bond deepens.” In addition to Crystal, Light and Jupe, Before also stars Rosie Perez, Maria Dizzia and Ava Lalezarzadeh.

Crystal executive produces with Eric Roth and showrunner and writer Sarah Thorp. Adam Bernstein is the pilot director and Jet Wilkinson is the producing director.

Apple TV+ will release the first two episodes Oct. 25, with additional episodes dropping on a weekly basis after that.

The Weeknd to livestream ‘one-night-only’ concert in São Paulo, Brazil on Sept. 7th

The Weeknd will be livestreaming his sold-out concert at Estádio MorumBIS in São Paulo, Brazil via his YouTube channel. Abel Tesfaye (The Weeknd) wrote on X: “Feast your eyes. São Paulo will be live streamed Sept. 7. Only on YouTube.”

Tesfaye also shared a teaser for the event, directed by Yza Voku, which offered a preview of a new song and features a series of AI-generated images by Google: Veo, Midjourney, Runway: Gen-3 and Luma: Dream Machine.  You can check out the teaser: HERE.

Variety reports that The Weeknd will perform fan favorites, as well as previews of his new work.  The artist also plans to donate a dollar per ticket toward the U.N. World Food Programme’s XO Humanitarian Fund (Tesfaye is a goodwill ambassador for the program), and he also plans to donate 10 percent of his merchandise earnings to the Brazilian Soul Fund.

The Weeknd shared in a statement: “I’m so excited to announce that we’ll be live streaming my show from São Paulo, Brazil, so everyone around the world can be a part of this special night. I wish I could come to every city and town on earth, but moments like this give us the chance to connect in real time at least and share that energy together, no matter where you are.”

See Sabrina Carpenter’s new video for ‘Taste’ starring Jenna Ortega

Sabrina Carpenter has shared the official music video for “Taste,” directed by Dave Meyers and featuring Jenna Ortega.  Taste is off Sabrina’s sixth studio album Short n’ Sweet, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 100 charts.

The video for Taste includes a series of campy horror references, with Carpenter and Ortega donning black dresses similar to Goldie Hawn and Meryl Streep in 1992’s Death Becomes Her.  Ortega also sports a similar nurse costume to Daryl Hannah’s in Kill Bill, and there’s also an ominous shower scene similar to the 1960 classic horror film, Psycho.

Short n’ Sweet also includes two of Carpenter’s previously released singles, “Espresso” and “Please Please Please” –“Espresso” was the third fastest song to hit one billion streams in Spotify history, while “Please Please Please” became Carpenter’s first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Carpenter will make her MTV Video Music Awards mainstage performance debut later this month, and is gearing up to embark on the Short n’ Sweet Tour, which kicks off September 23rd in Columbus. The 33-date tour will hit cities across the US and Canada including New York, Los Angeles, Nashville, Toronto, Austin, and more.

Colin Jost to host ‘Pop Culture Jeopardy!’ spinoff

Saturday Night Live star Colin Jost has been tapped as the host of Prime Video’s upcoming Pop Culture Jeopardy! Jost  – a writer/actor/comedian – has been a staff writer at NBC’s SNL since 2005, and co-anchor of “Weekend Update” since 2014.  Jost quipped after his new hosting gig was announced: “What is: I’m excited.”

The show’s official description: “Pop Culture Jeopardy! is a brand-new twist on the classic quiz show’s answer-and-question format that combines the academic rigor of Jeopardy! with the excitement and unpredictability of pop culture. Contestants, playing in teams of three, will need to be experts in categories from Alternative Rock to The Avengers; Broadway to MMA; Gen Z to Zendaya as they compete in a tournament-style event for the grand prize and ultimate bragging rights.”

Lauren Anderson, head of brand and content innovation, Amazon MGM Studios, said in a statement: “We’re thrilled to welcome the multi-talented Colin Jost as the host of Pop Culture Jeopardy! Colin’s wry affability and pop culture fluency make him uniquely qualified as the perfect host for this new iteration of the beloved franchise.”

Production on Pop Culture Jeopardy! began in August; a premiere date has not yet been set.

Seth Meyers’ new HBO comedy special set to debut this fall

Late Night host Seth Meyers will release his first HBO comedy special, with the network sharing in a press release that the stand-up comedy special will premiere this fall, also streaming on Max. Meyers’ last comedy special, Lobby Baby, was released on Netflix in 2019.

Meyers joked in a statement: “Critics say it’s the special my kids will be talking about in therapy twenty years from now!”  Added Nina Rosenstein, EVP of HBO Programming, Late Night and Specials: “As longtime fans, we’re so happy to partner with Seth on his first HBO special. He’s such a charismatic storyteller and we’ve always loved the way he reaches people on such a personal level. This special is endlessly relatable and so much fun to watch.”

Per Deadline, Meyers, 50, filmed the special in front of a live audience at The Vic Theatre in Chicago. aThe special is written and performed by Meyers, directed by Neal Brennan, and executive produced by Meyers and Mike Shoemaker.

Meyers came to fame as a writer and cast member on Saturday Night Live and has hosted Late Night since 2014.
