Mariah Carey reveals that her mother and sister died on the same day

Mariah Carey at the Variety's 2019 Power Of Women held at the Beverly Wilshire Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills^ USA on October 11^ 2019.

Mariah Carey revealed that both her mother Patricia, and sister Alison died on the same day last weekend. Neither the cause nor the exact date of Patricia and Alison’s death is known at this time.

Carey, 55, said in a statement shared with Variety: “My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day. I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed. I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”

Mariah’s mother Patricia was a Juilliard-trained opera singer and vocal coach. She went on to marry Alfred Roy Carey, welcoming three children—Morgan, Alison and Mariah—before divorcing when Mariah was 3 years old.

Carey openly spoke about her complicated relationship with mom Patricia and how they faced struggles over the years, writing in her 2020 memoir The Meaning of Mariah Carey: “Like many aspects of my life, my journey with my mother has been full of contradictions and competing realities. It’s never been only black-and-white — it’s been a whole rainbow of emotions. Our relationship is a prickly rope of pride, pain, shame, gratitude, jealousy, admiration and disappointment. A complicated love tethers my heart to my mother’s .. I had to stop making myself available to be hurt by [my family]. It has been helpful. I have no doubt it is emotionally and physically safer for me not to have any contact with my [siblings]. The situation with Pat, on the other hand, is more complicated. I have reserved some room in my heart and life to hold her — but with boundaries. Creating boundaries with the woman who gave birth to me is not easy — it is a work in progress.”   In the dedication section of her memoir, Carey wrote: “And to Pat, my mother, who, through it all, I do believe actually did the best she could. I will love you the best I can, always.”

Carey also spoke of her estrangement from her sister Alison, recently describing her on Oprah Winfrey’s Apple TV+ interview series as “troubled” and “traumatized.” In her book, Carey wrote that it was “emotionally and physically safer for me not to have any contact” with Alison and her brother Morgan.

‘Boy Meets World’ star Danielle Fishel reveals breast cancer diagnosis

Danielle Fishel arrives to the American Humane Hero Dog Awards on October 5^ 2019 in Hollywood^ CA

Actress Danielle Fishel has revealed she is battling breast cancer. The Boy Meets World star, 43, shared that she was recently diagnosed with an early form of breast cancer called ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS).

Fishel shared the news of her diagnosis on her re-watch podcast Pod Meets World, which she co-hosts with her former co-stars Rider Strong and Will Friedle.  Said Fishel: “So I would like to share something with our listeners … I was recently diagnosed with DCIS, which stands for ductal carcinoma in situ, which is a form of breast cancer. It is very, very, very early. It’s technically stage zero. To be specific, just because I like too much information all the time, I was diagnosed with high-grade DCIS with micro-invasion. I’m going to be fine. I’m having surgery to remove it. I’m going to be on some follow-up treatment. I’ve had to make a lot of decisions over the last couple of days.”

Fishel added: “The only reason I caught this cancer when it is still stage zero is because the day I got my text message that my yearly mammogram had come up, I made the appointment … For some reason I had always thought [if I were diagnosed with cancer] I would suffer in silence. I would get the diagnosis, I would not tell anyone. I would tell only my small group and then I would just suck it up. And then when I’m on the other side of it then I would tell people. But the place you have the most to learn from is that at the very beginning of a story or in the very messy middle of a story. My first instinct when I was diagnosed was to do that clam up thing … and then what I realized is the more people I talk to, the more people have their own experiences.”

The actress and her husband Jensen Karp have two sons: Adler, 5, and Keaton, 3.
