A stage musical based on the popular novel The Queen’s Gambit is in development. Level Forward studios has acquired the theatrical rights to The Queen’s Gambit novel from author Walter Tevis. The popular Netflix limited series of the same name starring Anya Taylor-Joy was also based on the novel.

The Queen’s Gambit follows fictional chess prodigy Beth Harmon as she competes while dealing with addiction and sexism. Netflix’s The Queen’s Gambit was watched by 62 million households in its first month of release, and Joy won her first Golden Globe award for Best Actress in a Limited Series, Miniseries or TV Movie for her role as Beth.

Level Forward CEO Adrienne Becker and producer Julia Dunetz said in a statement:  “It is a privilege for Level Forward to lead the charge of bringing The Queen’s Gambit to the stage through the beloved and enduring craft of musical theater. Told though a brave and fresh point of view, audiences are already sharing in the friendship and fortitude of the story’s inspiring women who energize and sustain Beth Harmon’s journey and ultimate triumph. The story is a siren call amidst our contemporary struggles for gender and racial equity, and we’re looking forward to moving the project forward.” Level Forward has not announced any writer, director or cast for the musical.

Buckingham Palace released a statement on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen on Tuesday, just two days after Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey. Throughout the CBS broadcast titled Oprah With Meghan and Harry: A CBS Primetime Special, Meghan and Harry addressed “feeling trapped” in the royal family and their personal struggles with mental health and allegations of racism within the institution.

The new statement from Buckingham Palace reads: The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan. The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. The statement continued, “While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately. Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members.”

Meghan claimed in the interview that there were “concerns and conversations about how dark [son Archie’s] skin might be when he’s born.” She said it would be “damaging” to reveal who had voiced those concerns. Harry later confirmed to Oprah that a conversation about Archie’s skin color did take place, but he wasn’t comfortable sharing any further details. “That conversation, I’m never going to share. But at the time, it was awkward. I was a bit shocked,” he said. “That was right at the beginning… ‘What will the kids look like?'” Winfrey later revealed that Harry had told her that the person who made these remarks wasn’t his grandmother, the queen, or his grandfather, Prince Philip.

Last week, a TikTok campaign called for Eminem’s ‘cancellation’ after lyrics from his 2010 single with Rihanna “Love the Way You Lie” resurfaced. In the song, Marshall Mathers raps “If you f***** leave again I’m strap you to this bed and set the house on fire.”

Now in response to those who have tried to ‘cancel’ him, Eminem has released the lyric video for “Tone Deaf,” takes aim at cancel culture. “Tone Deaf” is the latest single off Eminem’s 2020 album, Music To Be Murdered By — Side B.  and in the animated video clip, the rapper’s controversial past is put on full display as he blames his “alter-ego” for all his “evil thoughts” while refusing to tone down his lyrics. Eminem tweeted about the video, showcasing one of its key lyrics:“I won’t stop even when my hair turns grey (I’m tone-deaf) / ‘Cause they won’t stop until they cancel me.”
